My research interests focus on tackling global development challenges that particularly focus on the relationship between the city and countryside. Most of my research experience has been in Sub-Saharan Africa (Tanzania, Nigeria, Sierra Leone), and mostly focused on food systems (particularly production, distribution, urban and periurban agriculture). However, recently I have been involved in researching water and sanitation issues in South Africa, Egypt and India. I have also maintained a strand of research that has focused on enhancing teaching and learning in universities, most recently examining the need to build capacity for data science skills amongst social sciences graduates in global development sector.
